Spider-Man holding Ultron head

Ultron’s true creators were Roy Thomas and John Buscema, and he debuted in The Avengers comic book in summer of 1968. Ultron was given a combination of human emotions and psychology in addition to the cold efficiency of a computer. And over time, lots of power.

Josh Whedon was a fan and succeeded in bringing Ultron to the big screen in his 2015 Avengers movie. The movie didn’t quite do justice to the mechanized maniac, but there were glimpses into what could have been if his story had been given a couple of movies or more to develop. In the end, Ultron came off as another one and done villain, used to introduce the Vision and the Maximoff twins, Wanda and Pietro.

In the comics, however, Ultron has had a long career and his popularity is as strong as ever. He is the type of villain who can fit into any number of scenarios – something on a smaller scale as when he worked on creating his mate Jocasta, all the way up to creating his own planet.

Personally, I think he will return to the MCU in the future, perhaps in a Masters of Evil role or sent into space to be part of the cosmic element of future storylines. His “cameo” in Spider-Man: Homecoming seemed to me a nod to the fans by Marvel Studios Ultron is still in play and “not quite dead yet.”
